The achievement problem is fixed now by the way. Looks like I didn't have to re-earn any achievements too.
I've started to like mercs reunion more now as I realized the changes they've done to the scoring system. They've made combos worth a LOT more. The score for combos becomes ridiculous once it's above 100 or so. A total 150 combo is worth around 600k. And they've drastically reduced the bonus you get from time after killing all enemies (around 300 points per second instead of 1000). I still think the characters are overpowered, but I'm happy they've tried to encourage people to get combos instead of spamming melees (although I've got a sneaky suspicious that the way to get the highest score is still melee spam while keeping the combo). Rebecca is probably my favourite of the new characters. She feels like she could actaully fit in normal mercs power-wise. She isn't armed to the teeth like the other reunion characters and she's only got one really powerful melee instead of several. |

Eep, sorry, I was wrong. It's the same thing for me, it's not counting properly. I checked some other forums and they're saying you have to recover your gamertag and then re-get those achievements.

Tried the new stuff and ...
I LOVE REBECCA! *glomps Rebecca* Got an S rank first go with her. Love as well how her attacks involve either spraying the enemy or punching and kicking them in the crotch! The fact that she packs a huge stack of ammo and two first aid sprays is just sweet to boot. She's my new favourite Merc's character by miles, beating out Barry on the grounds that ... well, she's cute and he's not. Did I mention her crotch punching attack? Did Desperate Escape, had a hell of a time of it even on easy mode. Yikes. But it is good fun and I can see more replay value on that one than Lost in Nightmares (though I do enjoy Lost in Nightmares). Didn't get a chance to try out Heavy Metal Chris and Business Sheva unfortunately, as I'm skint, but I'm happy enough with the new stuff anyway. Rebecca FTW! |

Except Mike didn't try to hit on Leon. No wait, didn't he say he was going to take Leon for a drink at a bar? Nevermind then.
Also - Reapers. Gordamn Reapers! Why the heck did they have to put them in?! |

Am I the only one who thinks this DLC is quite the challenge?
(Especially compared to LIN) Both my friend and I played through on Veteran last night and it got rather frustrating at times. God knows what they are going to throw at us on Professional. Someone here mentioned Reapers...Oh my. Also, if someone here knows how to get the second Agitator to appear that would be great.

Desperate Escape on professional has to be the hardest thing in the entire game. I played it earlier today, and it was just pure torture. I've never had to lay down such a specific plan for a story mode chapter before. I'm also fairly sure it's 99% impossible to beat it in solo.
See the 2 turrets at the end of the second level? Use those and then shoot some guys positioned along a wall. |

It's not called Desperate Escape for nothing. I don't consider myself to be a superstar at RE5 or anything, but my God did Capcom really want to show us what the true meaning of Survival Horror really is with this DLC. HUGE Emphasis on the SURVIVAL part. The enemies seem endless (There is an achievement which asks you to dispatch 150 of them!), and the resources are extremely limited. This is made even worse if two players are going at it. The two strategies we employed seemed to each have a critical flaw. If you speed run it, sure you fight less and cover more ground, but you end up having less resources for the final battle. If you try to take down the enemies as they come, well, by the end of my Amateur run I killed over 200 of them, so yeah, that won't end very well on a PRO run. I mean...It's certainly not impossible. You do get the standard checkpoints, and we were able to beat Veteran at the very least, but my friend was getting really frustrated. The constant dying started to get on our nerves. What I found funny was how often the IFrames kept saving our ass. I never appreciated something like an IFrame until I played Desperate Escape. lol Will give Pro mode a go and see how far we can get. Thanks, will give that a shot. Man, I’m just full of bad puns today.

After hearing you guys talk about it, my resolve crumbled and I tried it out. Of course I'm a jerk so I tried it on vet. It wasn't so bad until the very ending. The AI just can't keep up. :/ So yeah, no trying that again until I have a partner.

Desperate Escape on professional was hard but it wasn't that hard. Its only hard if you dont kill the explosive turrets because they do damage... In my opinion its 60% impossible to beat it on solo because if you remember were to go its easy. Also it will take a while for your partner to actually do the part right on professional. Josh died like 15 times until he actually helped me on the last part. Then finally I finished professional on solo. Which gave me the final trophy I needed to get my 100% back on RE5.

Okay, so I officially hate Josh. The AI for him is a freakin moron. Every time I play this scenario as Jill, Josh dies. Chainsawed? Yup. Eaten? Yup. Raped by a Reaper? You betcha. And this is the kicker - this happens to me on Amateur, aka Easy mode. Easy! Wth? It doesn't end there. He refuses to pick up ammo at random points. I'm like 'Josh, grab this ammo!' and he's all 'No way!' - but his inventory has plenty of room. Just recently I was sitting in a bunker trying to sort through our weapons, and there were no enemies about. And then out of the blue and for no reason at all he just runs out and runs randomly around the level. No enemies. Not picking stuff up. Not set on attack. Just runs around in circles. I shout him back, he returns, then runs off again. *facepalm* I got fed up and played the main game again. Went up against Wesker on the last level and tried to take him out using just the default pistol. Got punched through the chest twice, and when I finally beat him it took ages. And this was on Normal mode. Good fun though. We could do with a Walkthrough for these two new scenarios, as I don't think Gamefaqs has any and I haven't seen any around so far. I could certainly do with some tips and mechanics for these levels. I've yet to beat DE on Veteran mode, and given my luck so far that's not going to be fun. Also, is anyone going to try a knife run? |

So my friend and I co-op'd DE on Vet today...we got to the last bit of the scenario with the final battle after many, mant deaths (many of which were axe-man related, my friend doesn't like to stick close to me >_>)...all was going well as I found that hiding out in the little inclosed room works wonders if you back yourself up into the corner with your partner...yeah, that plan worked until the Reaper busted through the door and ran full speed after us. Needless to say we ran until I could lodge a rocket in the bug's brain and so we went back to hiding out there.
Until a -SECOND- Reaper showed up. Bleck... |

As for Desperate Escape, I think there's only about two enemies you have to kill - the Chainsaw guy with the key in the first stage, and possibly one of those shell parasite things right at the start if you're unlucky enough to have him holding the gate key instead of finding it in a safe (I'd probably just restart rather than try knifing that thing). I've already knifed some of the regular enemies on easy mode with Jill, her knife skills seem to be better than anyone elses (seems faster anyway), and you can avoid some of the bigger ones. The rocket turret guys will be a pain, as I'd actually have to get up close and knife them instead of sniping them from a mile away, and I'd have to use the turrets to blast open the gates, but I figure that's allowable, as it's the only way to progress (after all you can't knife Irving to death in the main game can you?). If I have the time I'm going to record some runthroughs as well, normal ones as well as knife ones. Does anyone know any free software for ripping videos from DVD's? I used to have some years back but my computer fried a few months ago and I lost a ton of stuff. How do you add commentary as well? Is that easy to do, or really hard? It'd be nice if I could express just how much I hate the enemies as they're beating the tar out of me while I play. |

Looks like I might need a new partner for my Pro run if and when I decide to give it another go.
The friend I did my Amateur run with is beyond frustrated with Desperate Escape, and now all his free time will be devoted to Final Fantasy 13.

God damn Wesker! Grrl! Snarl!
Okay, so I just did the hail freakin mary of video walkthroughs for Lost in Nightmares. Best damn playthrough I've ever done for it. No damage. Kicked ass. Even got the Wish Upon a Star award for getting all the emblems. And then Wesker ruined it all. He kicked my ass twice, and on the third playthrough he still kicked my ass and I ran out of time before I could nail him. Damn him. edit - I've figured out how to rip and edit it Last edited by Dahhak; 10 March 2010 at 06:43 AM. |

Double post, sorry, but just had to say - I did a no damage Mercenaries Reunion game! No damage! w00t! I picked Rebecca and did the boat level, and I collected all of the timers, and I made it through to the end without getting hit even once. Her shotgun oooowwwwnnnnssss, and she practically has infinite ammo for the damn thing.
Once I had all the time I spent about four minutes with my back to a crate, shotgunning anything that even looked at me. Then I got bored and spent the rest of the match jumping from one crate to the other, taunting the hell out of the enemies. Finished off with an S rank, around 85 kills and a score of about 65k, which is not much, but for not taking so much as a single scratch during the entire time I'm quite happy. It's actually not that hard with Rebecca, I nearly got a no damage play when I first used her. Just spam the shotgun like crazy and find a nice place to stand. Good fun. I'm liking Reunion a lot more than regular Mercenaries, in fact I haven't even played regular Mercenaries since I got the new version. Edit to avoid triple post - Playing Desperate Escape again, I found an MP5! Has anyone else come across that? First time for me. I don't know if it was the cause, but I was testing out the Filter Effects from the special options, and I had the Noise filter on. Quatro Edit! I played DE again with the Noise effect on, and again got the MP5 in the same place. Also got the shotgun again right at the start. Wonder if it's a coincidence or if the Noise effect really does have some impact on the random placement of the weapons. Also had something new happen - was fighting one of those big man majini on the railway bridge, and he exploded and blew me off the bridge. I ended up hanging by my fingertips and had to hammer the square button to avoid falling. Unfortunately I was hammering the X button, and was just about to plummet to my death when Jill pulled me up and saved me. Phew. ... where is everyone? Bingo?
